Week 7-1
Sorry for the late post. I thought we only need to post it on the blackboard initially.
In the article “Theories and Practices of
Multimodal Education: The Instructional Dynamics of Picture Boks and Primary
Classrooms”, the author illustrates how multimodal is important in classroom
education. It can offer students with multiple elements, such as color, visual,
video, sound, etc. It also evaluates the practices that are possible in
classroom. This article is really important and refreshing for me. It allows me
to understand how I can apply the concept of multimodality in my future
teaching. It also tells me how such practices can be effective and attractive
for students.
In the article “Using the ADDIE Model to
Design Second Life Activities for Online Learners”, the authors point out the
importance of using SL in classroom. It can help students increase sense of
social presence, prompt multi-level interaction and be familiar with multimedia
resources. However, there are also challenge in using SL. For example, “people
with ill intentions may interrupt the class” if the teachers cannot lock the SL
campus. This is the first time that I hear about SL. But I do think this is a good
idea, especially for online learners. This is a very effective way to engage students
and instructors. I may consider integrating this into my future teaching so
that my students would be more engaged and interested in the learning materials.
The site is blocked at my school for "mature" content. I am also very concerned with internet safety for the students... This is a big deal breaker for me.
