Week 7-1

Sorry for the late post. I thought we only need to post it on the blackboard initially. In the article “Theories and Practices of Multimodal Education: The Instructional Dynamics of Picture Boks and Primary Classrooms”, the author illustrates how multimodal is important in classroom education. It can offer students with multiple elements, such as color, visual, video, sound, etc. It also evaluates the practices that are possible in classroom. This article is really important and refreshing for me. It allows me to understand how I can apply the concept of multimodality in my future teaching. It also tells me how such practices can be effective and attractive for students. In the article “Using the ADDIE Model to Design Second Life Activities for Online Learners”, the authors point out the importance of using SL in classroom. It can help students increase sense of social presence, prompt multi-level interaction and be familiar with multimedia resources. However, there are also ...

The Second Life is really a wonderful online tool to enhance engagement and interaction between students and students, between students and instructors. It allows students to experience social interactions in the game. In class, it may be used to help students view things that are not common in our reali life. It can also help studetns enhance their 3D sense. It may also help become familiar with modern technology and new literacy. The students can each play a role and interact with each other to solve one particular problem.

Book Builder Project

Here is the link to my book http://bookbuilder.cast.org/view.php?op=view&book=124232&page=1 I came up with the idea of the book content after observing that there are students with various cultural background. It is important for students to understand that people are, from the surface, differnet but are the same when it comes to education. Every child deserves equal education opportunities. Furthermore, students should also be aware that they shall embrace the diversity and interact with each other to progress and improve. As such, I choose one poem to show that essentially children from diverse cultural background are the same. I also choose pictures to show different races, ages, physical situations to show the diversity. I choose simply words and language since it is intended to be used for pre-k grade. My ELA teachers give me some hint to use these simpel words since they undestand the English langauge levels of these pre-K children. This book builder can be implemented...

nk9qvu 1)      In Emodo, teachers can create an assignment. Teachers can set the assignment title, due date, and choose whether to lock the assignment after due date. The teacher can also add assignment description in this function. This allows students to view requirements and submit their final. 2)      In Emodo, teachers can create a quiz. They can choose to use Multiple Choices, True or False, Short Answer, Filling in Blank, and matching. They can also set time limit for the quiz. Teachers can also choose to show results and randomize questions for each quiz. 3)      Poll. Teachers can also set up polls for students to vote. With each question, teachers can create several answers depending on the situations. 4)      Discussion: teachers can also create discussions to engage students, to assign homework, to monitor progress.  They can check the discussion by filtering them via ti...

Week 6-2

After reading these two assignments, I realize that the ICTs are very important for students nowadays. With the development of modern technology, ICTs have become a must for students to succeed in the future. However, in many cases, such ICTs are still not applied in schools extensively. The new literacies fluency requires three components: the technological skills, cognitive skills, and literacy skills. The training requires teachers to integrate ICTs in classroom in a delicate way. As a teacher, it is necessary to improve read and writing skills, to improve critical thinking and problem solving abilities, and to master the knowledge of hardware and software of ICTs. These three are necessary for developing new literacies and finally developing scientific inquiry. At the same time, with the development of the Internet, it is also necessary to integrate social networking element in the teaching. However, teachers must control such networking to avoid any negative impacts. Emodo is ...

Week 5-2

From the teachers’ point of view, using games in the classroom can mostly engage students. It is easier to convey knowledge through images and videos in the game. This way provides students with a lot of fun. From the learners’ point of view, using games in the classroom can help increasing the interests of learners. The vivid games can stimulate the learning desire of learners as compared to boring text. The challenges set by the games can also prompt the desire of learners to improve.

Week 5 -1

After creating an account with Flow Lab, I realize that actually teachers can create games on it on their own. In this way, they can design games that are most suitable for their curriculum themes and topics. Some teachers have used games like Super Smash, Rude Cube, Waste Land Rush to help teaching in the classroom. Different games are aimed to practice difference skills of students in a highly engaging manner. For example, in the game Waste Land Rush, learners can read the titles in the game to improve their reading and understanding skills. They can also practice by playing the game to see if their understanding about rules and goals are correct.
